A Life Remembered

Obituary

Edward Sidney McLaughlin, a devoted man of faith, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on February 16, 1955, in Shelby, Michigan.

Edward will be remembered and honored in a gathering of loved ones and friends on Thursday, June 18th, at 6:30 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 3950 Pointe Pkwy, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

Edward's life was a testament to his profound Christian faith. He traveled to continents and countries abroad, sharing the Gospel and embodying the spirit of Matthew 25:34-36 by helping those in need. His compassionate heart touched countless lives, and he will be deeply missed by his many brothers and sisters in Christ across Southeast Texas and beyond, as well as by those he may have only encountered briefly.

For many years, Edward worked as a skilled machinist. Beyond his profession, he possessed a remarkable talent for building, fixing, and fabricating in numerous facets, a gift he generously used to assist many people.

Edward cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, and found immense joy in watching them participate in various sports and events. Baseball was a particular passion he shared, passing his love for the game down to his son and grandsons. A cherished inside joke with his son, Matt, revolved around their "perfect day" – a dream itinerary that included driving to a high school playoff game, attending an Astros game, and finishing with a late-night little league game.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eunice McLaughlin; his sons, Matthew McLaughlin and wife, Letty, and Bryan Dewayne Mitchell; his grandchildren, Kristen Bush, Dylan Mitchell, Holden Mitchell, Kinnedy VanDevender, Maggie Thompson, Killian McLaughlin, Sidney McLaughlin, and Sophia McLaughlin; and his great-granddaughter, Daisy Thompson. Edward is also survived by his siblings: Gary and Barbara McLaughlin, Raymond Miller, Marigene McLaughlin, Jo Ann McLaughlin, Sylvia Landry, and Jo Ann McCoy; and many beloved nieces and nephew Gary Jr. and great grandchildren.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mary McLaughlin; his brothers, Alton, Leslie, and Ronnie McLaughlin; and his son, Bryan Mitchell.

Messages of Love

From family and friends

Uncle Eddie was one of those people who just made you feel at ease. Even though I didn’t get to see him often, I will always remember how kind and gentle he was. He had a sweet spirit about him that you couldn’t help but notice. More than anything, I remember his love for the Lord. Uncle Eddie’s faith wasn’t something he just talked about—it shined through the way he treated people. There was a warmth and goodness in him that came straight from his relationship with God. I know Heaven gained a good man, and I can only imagine the joy of hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Sending love and prayers to all of our family during this difficult time. Uncle Eddie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A simple condolence message could never contain the meaning Ed was to me. He was my friend in the greatest and highest sense of the word. Our friendship was one that we could leave for months not even talking, then be caught up again within a few minutes. He was the Biblical description of deacon, minister, and greatest of all, servant to those in need. I was one of those in need of Ed's talents. Knowing that I was a widow, he stepped in and fixed, made, gave, shaped, repaired & worked on too many things to list. The only time I bought supplies for anything Ed was working on was once, I paid for some PVC pipe and pipe dope to replace & repair my plumbing. Everything else, he just happened to have around, whatever was needed. Ed's loss shall be felt deeply by me and the multitude of people he served. Ed will always be missed so much. I cannot finish this without mentioning baseball. He and I went to Astros games and to Beaumont's minor league games as well as some Lamar games. We could share baseball for hours. He was also present for the birth of my eldest grandson. He came at first notice of labor and stayed until Gage was born. My heartbroken memories will always include Ed. My only consolation is that he is with the Lord he loved and served so much. So long Ed, until we meet again. Susan

Ed was a special person to all he met. He gave of himself to others. He will always be my Rock in Life. I will always carry him in my mind and heart. He will be greatly missed.
