A Life Remembered

Obituary

Kathleen “Kathy” Jeanis McFarland, 69, of Bridge City, Texas, a faithful servant of God, was called home to the Lord on April 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, and strengthened by the sacraments of the Catholic Church.

Kathy was born on October 19, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas, daughter to Enos and Mary (Sonnier) Jeanis. Kathy was born and raised in Port Acres where she attended Little Flower Catholic School in her early years and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1975.

She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Terry McFarland, June 16, 1973, at Little Flower Catholic Church. They resided in Port Acres most of their lives then later moved to Bridge City and continued raising their three children and enjoyed 53 years of happy marriage. Kathy was a true servant of God, always giving of herself for those in need. She worked for Gaspard’s Nursing Home in her younger years, caring for the sick; served as a housekeeper and cook for the priests at Little Flower Catholic Church; and was the activities director for the Port Arthur Senior Center for many years. She also sat with the elderly and terminally ill—she never saw these positions as just a job. Her love for people was her ministry. After years of dedicated work, she retired and embraced a life rich in care and creativity. She was a devoted homemaker and a talented seamstress, quilter, crafter, and crocheter, finding joy in thrifting (she claimed to be an “Antique Archeologist”), shopping at JoAnn’s, and so much more.

A devoted disciple of Christ, though her health the past 20 plus years was not the greatest, that never stopped her. She continued to contribute to those in need; crocheting for Birthright, making prayer quilts for those battling sickness; all from her own bedridden space.

Kathy was a devoted wife and mother who took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She supported them in all they did, celebrating their successes and faithfully attending their sporting events, recitals, competitions, and ceremonies. She LOVED spending quality time with her family, as family was everything to Kathy!

She is survived by her husband, Terry McFarland of Bridge City; children Michelle Cauley and husband, Cedric, of Beaumont; Nikki Thibodeaux and husband, Danny, of Bridge City; and Brent McFarland and wife, Erica, of Bridge City. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Cullen Cauley and wife, MaryGrace; Maci Cauley; Emma Thibodeaux; and Amos McFarland; and one great-grandchild, Major Jones. She is also survived by her brother Carroll Jeanis and wife Billie Jo, sister Irene LeBlanc, along with a niece and several nephews who she was raised with as brothers and sisters and loves more than anything.

Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Kathy’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026; at Little Flower Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Ave, Port Arthur, TX 77640. Lunch will follow in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Little Flower Catholic Church in Kathy’s memory.
