Melissa Odom, born on March 19, 1988, in Galveston, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2026.

Melissa had a special gift for making others smile, possessing a heart of gold and a beautiful spirit. She found her greatest joy in being a mother to her son, Maddox Hawthorne. Melissa loved fishing, singing, and dancing, and expressed her creativity through makeup, hair, and nails, embracing all things uniquely her own.

She is survived by her partner in life, Tyler Hawthorne; her mother, Rhonda Spurlock (Britt); her grandmother, Laura Turner (John); and her siblings, Michael Carruth (Ashley), Tre' Spurlock, Lacy McLaurin (Blake), and Ashleigh Spurlock (Kyle). Melissa also leaves behind numerous other loving family and friends.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Larry Odom, and her grandmothers, Mary Tucker and Freda Odom.

Melissa was deeply loved and will be remembered for her laughter, her loving heart, her wild and beautiful spirit, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out, donated, brought food, sent prayers, and spoken words of encouragement, they are truly grateful for the outpouring of love in this time of loss. There will be a celebration of life to honor Melissa on Sunday, October 4, 2026, starting at 2:00 p.m. at The Pecan Grove Community Center located at 414 Vallie Ave. in Kirbyville, Texas. A priate family burial and balloon release will follow at the Krbyville Cemetery. Anyone whose life was impacted by Melissa's infectious smile is welcome to join the family in celebrating who she was.
